I hope you’ve all been enjoying the PSN release of Digital Devil Saga. I know that many of you have been asking if the sequel, Digital Devil Saga 2, will also be coming to PSN, allowing you to continue the storyline.
Well, I’m pleased to report that it was confirmed to me earlier today that we’ll be releasing Digital Devil Saga 2 on PSN this Wednesday, priced at £6.49. What that means is that you’ll be able to continue your game of Digital Devil Saga as soon as you finish the first game! :)
Unlike the first game in the series, Digital Devil Saga 2 was actually released shortly after I joined Ghostlight, although, like with the original game, I never actually worked on it as it was more or less completed before I joined.
The DDS2 storyline is a continuation of the first game, so if you’re not sure which one to go for I would recommend starting with the first game. Those of you who did play the first game should enjoy the same dark plot and the revelations contained in the sequel.
In terms of game play Digital Devil Saga 2 takes many of the best features of the first game, including retaining the excellent “Press Turn” battle system of the prequel and of course the game still features the great storytelling and artwork you’d expect from an Atlus game :). Some new features do make it into the game, including the Karma Ring system, which allows you to increase your characters stats by equipping the ring with gems. There’s also the new Berserk form, a limited transformation where only part of a character’s body is changed.
When it was released back in 2007 Digital Devil Saga was an immediate hit with the press. RPG fan gave it 99% calling it “Easily the finest game I’ve had a chance to play this year and stand’s to be one of the greatest games of this generation.” Meanwhile Eurogamer.net gave it 9/10 saying “Digital Devil Saga 2 is everything an excellent sequel should be.”

Hi everyone. Who’s looking forward to E3? With all 3 of the current/next gen consoles well established we should get some big announcements about the games this year! :)
With a few days until the E3 carnival gets underway you’ll want something to do… If you’re a JRPG fan I think we may have just released the game for you! As promised in last week’s blog, the long-awaited release of the rather brilliant Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga took place yesterday. The game is priced at just £6.49/€7.99/$11.75 (AUD) and available from the PSN store here.
Digital Devil Saga was actually my first SMT game and served as a pretty good introduction to the series. As you’d expect, the story telling is excellent and the combat system provides the player with a decent challenge, whilst retaining a really fun element.
We’ve also been hard at work with the PC port of Elminage Gothic this week, which is due out later this year. Since we announced Elminage we’ve replaced more of the PSP artwork, the menu designs have been reworked, and a new game font has been implemented. After what seemed like an eternity I can now say that all the PSP character art has now been switched to the high res versions.
The Japanese-to-English translation is also progressing well and more of the game is now in English (making testing a little easier! :))
Speaking of Elminage, I’ve recently spent some more time looking through the collection of monster artwork from the game. Since I’m now very much a fan of the monster designs (which mix the traditional with the downright bizarre) I thought I’d pick out a few more to show you all.
In other news last night the final piece of Agarest: Generations of War DLC, the Elegant Holiday Pack, was released on Steam for £1.59. So if you want to add more DLC items to your game then you can visit here.
I should at this point remind you that we will in the near future be creating bundle packs of the Agarest DLC available at a discounted price should you wish to hold off on this one until then.
I’ll be back next week, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

Hi everyone. I’ve got lots to tell you this week, so let’s kick-off with a follow up to a news item that I mentioned last week on our Twitter account. I’m really happy to confirm (at long last) that a true classic of the PS2 era - Atlus’s fantastic Digital Devil Saga - will be coming to PSN on June 4th through the PS2 Classics programme! Digital Devil Saga was originally released here in Europe all the way back in July 2006, which is roughly six months before I joined the Ghostlight team as a tester. While I obviously never got to work on DDS itself, I did play it at home and really enjoyed the game’s dark and immersive atmosphere and phenomenal storyline. I’ve been playing the game again this week and I’d honestly forgotten just how good a game it is! The ‘Press Turn’ battle system is excellent but the Junkyard is still definitely one of the more memorable settings for me. Here’s a little more info…
Set in an alternative universe, six warring factions are engaged in a deadly power struggle to be the only surviving group. The rules of engagement are irrecoverably changed by the impact of a new life-force who gives each character the power to transform into an alter-ego demon with extreme powers and skills - and a taste for the flesh of defeated foes.
Have you got the appetite for Digital Devil Saga?
- Part of the globally renowned and hugely successful Shin Megami Tensei role-playing game series.
- Awe-inspiring video sequences guide the player through the engaging storyline.
- Lavish and diverse locations and gaming environments.
- Satisfying turn based RPG combat with added elements and combos based on the characters ability to be in human or demon form.
- Over 60 hours of gameplay - even for the most ardent RPG fans.
Digital Devil Saga was critically acclaimed receiving a mighty 100% from Game Chronicles and in fact they even went so far as to call it “One of the best games of all time.” It also received a very impressive 95% from RPG Fan and 91% from Gaming Age to name just a few of the excellent reviews. The game will be priced at just £6.49 so if you missed out on playing this classic, or if you’ve simply mislaid your old boxed copy and want to relive the experience, then keep your eyes on the European PSN store next week and grab yourself a huge helping of JRPG goodness :)
In other news, it’s time for our third Agarest Zero DLC bundle of goodies to make their way on to Steam :) The Agarest Zero Bundle #3 will contain the following DLC items:
Tomorrow's Hero Pack
Schie's Bargain Pack
Extra TP Pack
As with the first two bundles, it will be priced at just £3.99 which means you’ll be saving a massive 50% (well, very nearly) over the £7.97 it would cost you to pick up the DLC items individually on PS3. As usual the new DLC bundle will go up at roughly 6pm BST and will be available from the Agarest Zero Steam Store page, here.
Two weeks ago, when I introduced the previous bundle of Agarest Zero DLC, I also spoke about how pleased we were with how the new bundles were being received by everyone. So much so, that we are now planning to introduce DLC bundles to Agarest: Generations of War in an effort to make the huge list of available Agarest DLC somewhat less overwhelming :) The individual items of DLC will be removed from sale when the bundle packs are made available and we will of course be offering similar savings to those offered in the Agarest Zero DLC bundle packs.
That’s just about it from me this week apart from reminding you that the team here are hard at work bringing Agarest 2 & Elminage Gothic to PC, plus I should have yet more interesting news for you in the not too distant future! :)
I’ll be back next week, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.
