Agarest 2 Steam beta applications open

Thu, 15th Jan 2015 | Posted by Ross

With the port of Agarest 2 coming along very nicely now, you’ll be pleased to hear that we’re just about ready to open applications for the Agarest 2 Steam beta!  We’ve actually had a small, handpicked team of beta testers looking at the game for the last couple of days in preparation for this, so we’ve already made a start on it.

To join them in the Agarest 2 closed beta all you need to do is to send an email to: beta@ghostlight.uk.com with your name, date of birth and the technical specifications of your PC.

Applications will close on the 18th January, so please make sure to get them in before then.  As with previous closed betas, we will not be picking people on a random or first-come-first-served basis, so please do bear that in mind.  What a ‘yes’ decision actually comes down to depends on a number of factors, including how representative we feel the range of PC specs we’ve assembled for the beta is.

As we only have a limited number of places available for the beta, feel free to tell us why you think you’d be particularly suited to helping us with the testing phase of Agarest 2. This may include information like, details of any previous experience you’ve had in beta testing or simply declaring your undying love for the genre.  In fact, please tell us anything that you feel is relevant which may help us approve your application. :)

In other news I know many of you have been asking us whether the PC version will be based on the EU or North American version of Agarest 2. I can now report that the PC version of Agarest 2 will be based on the European version of this title.  This does mean that the game will not include a small number of CG images and minigames that feature the first generation version of Fiona.  I realise that many of you will be disappointed by this news but it is the version of the game that is compliant with local laws in many of the countries we deal with.  Put simply, while this was not a decision that we’ve taken lightly, the alternative to Ghostlight releasing the EU version of this title was to not release the game on Steam at all.

Moving on to Way of the Samurai 4 now and the hard work of beta testing continues.  We’ve recently received a new build which introduces the very important addition of controller remapping.  We’re not quite ready to open the game up for beta applications just yet, but we hope that we’ll be able to do so very soon.

That’s all from me.  I’ll be back next week, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

The Steam Anime Sale

Thu, 8th Jan 2015 | Posted by Ross

Hi everyone.  I hope you all had a brilliant Christmas break and a great start to the New Year.  Now that we’re settled back in to the office, I’d say that 2015 is already looking like it’s going to be a very busy year for us all here at Ghostlight!

Kicking things off, some of you may have already seen mentioned on Twitter that the Steam Anime sale starts this evening and as you might expect Ghostlight are taking part and are offering both Agarest: Generations of War and Agarest: Generations of War ZERO as part of the sale.

The chart topping SRPG, Agarest: Generations of War (regular price $14.99) will have its price slashed by a whopping 75% during the sale.  Plus, we’ll be making all of the game’s DLC, the Premium Edition Upgrade and of course the Collector’s Edition available with the same mighty 75% discount too! With a truly epic storyline taking in five generations of heroes along with challenging grid-based strategic battles, this offer is fantastic value for anyone who wants to jump into this great series of SRPGs.

The prequel to Agarest, Agarest: Generations of War Zero (regular price $19.99) will be available for half price during the sale and once again, this discount applies to all of the game’s DLC bundles as well!  With a brand new story featuring over 80hrs of compelling turn-based combat, animated character portraits, plus the new addition of Vacation Days, this is one that fans of the first Agarest won’t want to miss.

Meanwhile, since we returned on Monday things have been heating up in the office as work continues on the PC conversions of both Way of the Samurai 4 and Agarest 2.  The team are currently working really hard to resolve a few persistent issues before we can open up applications for the Beta.  (I’ll be sure to keep you all up to date with any news that I get on that.)

In other news I recently took a trip into the depths of the Ghostlight warehouse to help sort out some of the old retail games that we’ve accumulated over the years.  Along with some truly classic (and dare I say leftfield) Japanese releases from the PS2 era and before, I also found some really strange stuff in there such as an action adventure ‘Smarties’ game which apparently stars the blue smartie.  Some of these titles have been sent to us by various publishers over the years for evaluation purposes and others were picked up at retail during our many trips to Japan.  We’re still not quite sure how the Smarties game got there though :).  Thinking about it, I may have to run a competition or two to give away some of these games in ‘mystery’ bundles.  What do you think?

That’s all from me for now.  I’ll be back next week, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.
