Hi everyone. Usually I come here to tell you about Japanese games getting a release in the West, however, in a slightly unusual turn of events I’m going to tell you about the Japanese release of Laughing Jackal’s fantastic firefighting action roguelike, Flame Over.
Flame Over is available for just ¥1099 and you can find it here on the Japanese PSN Store.
As a big fan of Japanese gaming, I must admit it’s really exciting to see a game I’ve worked on released on PSN in Japan. :)
Now you’re playing with fire!
Blending top down ‘squirt ‘em-up’ action with Roguelike RPG mechanics, Flame Over features fast-paced fire-fighting thrills, randomly generated levels and 4 deadly game zones.
Guide fire-fighting hero, Blaze Carruthers, in a race against time and near-certain death! Squirt, splash and spray your way through all 16 floors of the deadly Infernal Industries building, combating ferocious fires in a red-hot adventure that changes every time.
This game is ON FIRE!
• It Burns! - Fight against a deadly dynamic fire system that spreads realistically.
• Shop ‘til you Drop! - Find hidden items, equip powerups and upgrade Blaze to survive.
• Be a Hero! - Rescue panicking people and cutesy cats to stay alive.
• Never-Ending Emergency! - Thousands of room variations and secrets will keep you fired up… forever!
If you’re not in Japan and want to play Flame Over, then you can pick it up on Vita, PS4 or on Steam.
In other news, we’re still hard at work on several projects at the moment, including the JRPG I’ve mentioned a few times, which is coming along nicely. The porting process has been going very smoothly! Unfortunately, we’re still not able to share details with you yet, but as soon as we’re allowed, rest assured I’ll be on the blog to tell you all. :)
Finally, I’m sorry to tell you that there will not be a Ghostlight blog next week, as I’m going to South Africa on holiday. This has the side benefit of not overshadowing E3, which I’m sure was something everyone over in LA was worrying about. :) Having said that, I have emailed everyone displaying at E3 asking them to hold off on announcing anything exciting until I’m back in the country. I haven’t had any replies yet, but I’m sure they’ll be coming any minute…
That’s all from me. I’ll be back in two weeks, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

Hi everyone. It’s not often I’ll tell you not to pick up one of our games, but if you’re interested in picking up the fantastic Japanese Dungeon Crawler, Elminage Gothic, then you should wait until Monday, because that’s when it becomes part of the Steam Weeklong Deals. Elminage Gothic will have its price slashed by 50% meaning you pay just £3.49 for this brilliant game. You’ll have to hurry though, as the offer ends on Monday 13th June, so be sure to visit the Elminage Gothic Steam Store page to take advantage of this great deal.
From the makers of the world renowned “Wizardry Empire” titles, Starfish SD brings you the latest entry in their popular series of dungeon crawlers. Elminage Gothic, previously only available in Japanese on PlayStation® Portable, now comes to PC offering a classic old school dungeon crawling experience with a dark, gothic twist!
Features include:
- Well over 80 hours of dungeon crawling gameplay!
- Hundreds of stunning monsters, creatures and demons to defeat
- Multiple character classes
- The classic and traditional “THAC0” system!
- Full Japanese to English translation
In their 8/10 review, RPGSite said: “If you are the type of person who relishes in challenging themselves, with the patience to crawl through hordes of relentless enemies, then you can’t do much better than this. At around 50 hours long, this is a task not quickly completed.”
In other news, last weekend I visited MCM Expo at the Excel Centre in London. It was great to see lots of familiar faces from the blog comments, and from Twitter, alongside some of our beta testers and a few people I knew from other European publishers.
I also got to meet David & Nao from Idea Factory International, who’d come over to London to show off some of their latest games. It was brilliant to meet both of them, and I must say some of the games they brought over looked excellent.
I didn’t pick up any models or games this year, but I did buy a few volumes of manga, I’m now up to date with the Western release of UQ Holder and I picked up some more Vinland Saga among other things.
While the convention seems to get bigger each year (I’ve been going since 2004) the whole event seemed much less crowded than usual, and it was nice to be able to move around more freely. Opening up more space really has made it a much more pleasant experience.
If you went to MCM Expo (or any other convention for that matter) I hope you had a great time :). I’d imagine I’ll be back in October so if any of you are planning to head down there on the Saturday then there’s a chance I’ll see you there :).
That’s all from me. I’ll be back next week, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight?
