Lost Dimension character breakdown: Agito Yuuki and George Jackman

Thu, 15th Jun 2017 | Posted by Al

In our previous and penultimate Lost Dimension character breakdown, we looked at Marco and Yoko’s best skills.  This week – the finale – it’s finally time for Agito Yuuki and George Jackman to take centre stage.  Agito is a teleporting, distance fighter while George is the strongman of the team with some interesting abilities and plenty of scope for expansion by equipping other characters’ Materia.  Let’s have a closer look at them!

First up, here are my favourites from Agito's skill tree.

Here goes:

·         Phase Item: This is a must in my opinion, as it’s a 1-hit upgrade and allows you to apply items to characters from much further away than any other character could.

For instance, using this to help Sho keep his SAN topped up, might allow him to continuously use Daydream, keeping the turn order in your favour, while allowing Agito to be far enough away to help other characters with Assists, etc.  It’s only 1 Skill point to acquire Phase Item, so it’s well worth it!

·         Cruel Step: There are three things I really like about this skill:

1) It does excellent damage for its cost; 2) It looks awesome as it hacks at enemies from all sides; 3) It has HUGE range, which is very helpful and might allow you to end a battle a turn earlier (which is great for your mission ranking, perhaps winning you some free items as a reward.) :)

·         Phase Blade: Agito’s own take on the ‘insta-kill’ attacks used by other characters.

Maxed out, this has a pretty good chance of taking big enemies out in own go, which can only ever be a good thing.  Plus, I like the way he flings the knife backhand… ^^

·         Summon Allies: This – along with Sho’s ‘Daydream’ – might be the best skill in the whole game. Agito can teleport through doors, and then use this skill to bring everyone else with him.

This can hugely impact on the speed of battles, especially when it’s not necessary to kill all enemies.  Probably his most essential skill, but it’s deep down at the end of his skill tree, so planning will be required to grab it!

Ah, good old Agito!  His teleporting makes him a real shock trooper, as he laughs in the face of locked doors and gaping chasms.  He’s also a pretty hard hitter, although not as much as our next subject.

Yes, finally, after waiting patiently for his team mates’ character breakdowns to be finished, here are my favourite of George’s skills:

·         Mind’s Eye: This is great. It’s stackable so can greatly increase the effectiveness of other skills and is cheap to use.

Once you’ve got some of his later skills unlocked, using Mind’s Eye on cheaper enemies can yield great results when lining George up against the big-hitting bad guys, particularly giant mechs, on the subject of which...

·         Zantetsu: When facing some of the huge bipedal robotic enemies in the game, Zantetsu is a real asset.

It’s made even more lethal if you’ve levelled up George’s ‘Analyze Machine’ skill.  Put together, these two skills spell BIG trouble for those pesky mechs!

·         Kyouchi: This is a passive skill that – simply put – makes George’s sword hit harder.

Any skill using the sword increases in power and when you consider George is already the strongest character, this makes him doubly dangerous.  Keep this one topped up once you’ve got the other skills you want.  As this is an innately ‘background’ skill there’s no pretty picture for this one – sorry! :)

·         Neck Slasher: If you have plenty of Mind’s Eyes stacked, then Neck Slasher hits even harder than normal and has a great chance to insta-kill.

If you listened to me about the Kyouchi skill, it’ll be powerful enough to take down weaker enemies right away too. On top of all that it has a great name.  Who doesn’t want to unlock ‘Neck Slasher’?? ^_^

With that, my series of character breakdowns is over.  I hope it’s given you some insight into each character’s strengths and weaknesses.

One of the things I love about Lost Dimension is that while there are traditional qualities to the character archetypes, at the same time each has highly original quirks that make the combat in the game something very special indeed.  And soon you guys will be able to play it for yourselves.  Yay!

Thanks so much for reading and we’ll be back with more Lost Dimension news and info very soon. Cheers for now! Bye!

Lost Dimension Closed Beta - applications now open!

Thu, 8th Jun 2017 | Posted by Ross

Hi everyone.

Thanks to the hard work of the team at Laughing Jackal, I’m very excited to be able to tell you that we’re now ready to open applications for the Lost Dimension closed beta!

To join in the Lost Dimension closed beta, all you need to do is send an email to: BetaLD@ghostlight.uk.com with your name, date of birth and the technical specifications of your PC.

Applications will close on 13th June, so please make sure to get your emails to us before then.  As with previous closed betas, we will not be picking people on a random or first-come-first-served basis.  What a ‘yes’ decision actually comes down to depends on a number of factors, including how representative we feel the range of PC specs we’ve assembled for the beta is.

As we only have a limited number of places available, please feel free to tell us why you think you’d be particularly suited to helping us with the beta testing phase of Lost Dimension.  This may include information like details of any previous experience you’ve had in beta testing, or simply declaring your undying love for the genre.  In fact, please tell us anything that you feel is relevant which may help us approve your application :)

Lost Dimension character breakdown: Marco Barbato and Yoko Tachibana

Fri, 2nd Jun 2017 | Posted by Al

Welcome back to my series of Lost Dimension character breakdowns. Last week we investigated the strengths of Sojiro and Zenji, two of the more unusual characters. This time we’re hanging out with Marco Barbato, who is a telekinetic, tank-like character, as well as the group’s resident empathic psychic, Yoko Tachibana. These two have some pretty awesome skills and are well worth ranking up, as you’ll find out below.

Let’s start with Marco. Along with Mana and George, he’s a tank-style character, though a bit more fragile to begin off with.

In the end, though, I think he’s probably the more dangerous of the three. While initially something of a glass cannon, he makes up for this with skills that minimise or negate damage altogether. Here are some of my favourites:

·         Stay Back!: This is one of the very earliest area-attack skills you’ll unlock and for me one of the coolest looking ones early in the game.

It will affect your teammates, so it needs careful use, but will see you through early group encounters and it upgrades well.

·         Not This Time!: As readers of previous entries in this series will know, I love passive skills in games! This is a great one, as it gives a chance to totally negate damage from enemy attacks, with no action required from you.

It's a real winner for a guy who’s effective up close – this really encourages you to 'tank it up'!

·         I’ll Get You!: My favourite of Marco’s skills (I love all skills that have a chance to insta-kill. Who wouldn’t?)

Rank this baby up and you’ll cut a swathe through your foes. Plus, it’s not too GP expensive, which is a real bonus.

·         Destroy Them!: I included this one as it’s a real ‘do or die’ skill. It’s hugely expensive and takes you to the brink of insanity, but I like berserking Marco, since he’s such a hard hitter.

On maps where the team is split this can be kind of valid. Send him off alone to go nuts on a larger enemy, deploy Destroy Them! and watch him berserk-kill the enemy next turn. That said, this could just as easily backfire, but risks are fun, right? ;D

Now we’ll move on to Yoko who I initially dismissed as not particularly useful, what with me being more of a direct-combat kind of guy.

But I was so wrong. In the right hands, Yoko can provide devastatingly good help to her teammates. Here are my favourite of her skills:

·         Demotivation: A great debuffing skill to employ on tough ‘boss type’ enemies, after which you can get the rest of the gang to wail on them.

A nice early-stage acquisition.

·         Psychotherapy: Great for those times when you’ve got SAN-sapping skills that you can’t wait to redeploy. Gives a boost to an ally’s SAN meter and means you needn’t worry about using up previous SAN-restoring items.

As Yoko’s own attacks aren’t powerful, she’s a character who’s better off boosting her allies, so this needn’t be a pain.

·         Brain Hacker: I’m cheating here, as this is a skill that’s unlocked as a Materia by acquiring other skills.

That said, Brain Hacker gives all team members (regardless of range) a boost to ALL stats, so it’s a total beast of a skill.

·         Noise Blaster: A great area attack, as it has a chance to confuse all enemies in range, without affecting any allies mixed in with them. Better still, if you use it again, it’ll deal higher damage to enemies who are already confused.

It’s also cheap for its power, so it’s a real win-win skill and probably my favourite of Yoko’s abilities. It’s acquired fairly late, so you may need to plan ahead in order to grab it on your first couple of runs.

So, there we have it – Marco and Yoko explained! Next week I’ll be back with our final character breakdown blog, where I look at Agito and George's skills. We are nearly there… See you then!
